I own 50 acres in Molalla, approximately 30 acres tillable. I am seeking someone to help me manage the farm and work the land. The larger fields are my main area of need, though understanding of the smaller projects (one acre market garden, two acres of wine grapes, and 2 acres of nursery shade trees) is beneficial as well.
I am hoping to sell to schools/institutions, and have the hope to host school field trips at the farm in the future.
If personalities work, this could be a long term position.
This season I am flexible to a potential partner's ideas, as I know I can't manage it on my own.
Possible crops: gluten-free grains, cattle/sheep, vegetables
Schools: I am hoping to sell to schools/institutions, and have the hope to host school field trips at the farm in the future.
Organic: I am starting the process of certifying certain areas as organic (market garden and two fields).
Permaculture: I have contracted with a permaculture designer for a masterplan of the farm. The land has little slope, but due to water draining quickly, I'm hoping to implement ways of slowing down water filtration into the soil. Knowledge of these methods would be ideal.
Rotational Grazing: I am particularly interested in the Allan Savory method, but I have no experience with cattle and no fences. If this is something you're interested in doing or learning, we could be a good team.
Perennial crops: I have considered grapes and hazelnuts or other perennial crops, but cost is prohibitive until funding is available, yet spring is already here.
30 acres of tillable fields (though no-till ideal), one acre market garden, two acres of wine grapes, and 2 acres of nursery shade trees
This is the start of my 3rd season owning the farm.
Past known land uses have been buckwheat, grains, Christmas trees.
I have done cover crop on some of the land, but not grown a cash crop yet.
I have water rights from the Molalla River and an existing irrigation system which uses a water cannon. I am working toward installing water storage tanks for when the river gets low at the end of summer, and to feed a drip system.
Soil is Salem silt loam. There are river rocks to manage and I do have rock pickers. I am working on managing perimeter blackberries with herbicide and mowing.
Small greenhouse, tractor shed, lean-to of a barn (barn is not available)
Kubota M100X, Excavator, flail mower, disc, grain drill, rock pickers, swather, combine, other implements
Understanding of equipment use is vital, maintenance is helpful, and ability to repair it is a plus.
Transitioning to organic will prevent conventional methods in some area, but can be discussed as needed for other fields.
I am a female land-owner, and am very open to those able to work respectfully with women in the agricultural field.
To contact a land holder, you must first fill out a land seeker profile and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
