About us: We own a 1 acre lot in McKenzie Bridge that we purchased with intent to build a home. Our plans have changed and we aren’t going to live there, but we would love to have someone use it productively! It is a great spot to cultivate market flowers and greens, lavender, garlic, bees, berries, or other high value crops. That was also part of our vision but time and resources don’t allow us to work it properly. We believe in native plants, organic farming, and conservation principles.
About the land: Very close to the little town of McKenzie Bridge, with the pub/store…live music in the summer evenings! No river access but it’s close by. Also close to Horse Creek Lodge, so there is potential for you to host Hipcampers, etc. The bus from Springfield stops in McKenzie Bridge a couple of times a day. It’s about 10 min to Belknap Hot Springs, 20 min to Tamolitch, 40 minutes to HooDoo ski area, and an hour to Sisters. TONS of hiking, mountain biking, rafting and fishing opportunities!
The lot is about half open (full sun) and half wooded, and the sun area is fully cleared and level. The forested areas are a gentle slope down to another level area. There is a high-quality well and electricity available, but no structures (except a small shed and a pump house). There is a sewage tank but no septic, so = composting toilet! It is a great spot to cultivate market flowers and greens, lavender, garlic, bees, or other high value crops. That was also part of our vision but time and resources don’t allow us to work it properly.
It is not effectively fenced. When we bought the lot, it was covered with trash and condemned trailers; we’ve done very extensive cleanup but there may be some soil remediation required for food crops. If you have sawyer/builder skills, there is plenty of wood to work with for fences and other structures! We are open to taking out most or all of the trees.
About our vision: someone who works on the property, growing things and improving it, for the spring/summer/fall, and shuts it down for the mountain winter. (Unless you are a hardy soul and want to live there year-round.) We are open to bartering work, such as fencing, for lease. We can’t offer housing but would be fine with you placing a small camper or yurt there. We would not be “supervising” in any way but would like to be able to visit occasionally and see how it’s going. Because we love farms and gardens!
This would be a heartfelt project. But we are also big believers in good contracts to maintain good relationships, so we will want a solid signed agreement in place. Thanks for considering it!
