Land Seeker Description

Hello!

We are a mid 20’s couple with a wonderful a two year old, niece and mother-law! While we may not have as much experience as one may want, we are very ambitious, handy, and ready to commit our lives to making a farm a viable option for our family and future generations. We are constantly studying different farming and livestock management practices to insure that we are able to roll with the punches.

We are looking for the perfect land and home to make our lives on. For the past few years we have been building our lives to this moment but are having a difficult time finding land to cultivate our dream on. We would ultimately love to have access to 10+ acres of land that we could raise livestock on (a focus in poultry) and a grow an abundance of produce that would sell to our communities. We are wanting to be able to create a large of enough market garden to sustain several CSA members as well as retail farmers market.

We would love to find land with infrastructure or the ability to put infrastructure on the land. Such as green house, equipment storage buildings, animal pens etc,.

What features of the property are essential?

Water rights, electricity.

Ability to install storage and packing infrastructure.

While not essential, having a barn, shop, greenhouse(es) would be important when possible. Not having to immediately have to financially cover those cost would greatly improve how quickly we would turn the property around.

Describe your farming experience

As of right now we don't have experience running anything above an 1/8 of an acre; however, my husband has experience with irrigation systems and landscaping. What we don't have in experience we more than make of for with ability to learn on our feet and take warranted advice. We are following tried and true processes and we are continuing to increase our knowledge.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

Our goals are defined by the land and size of land we are able to find. Ultimately, our short term goals include having 2 operating greenhouses to grow produce year round and have pastured poultry eggs in the winter. We would also be sustainably building soil with our livestock.
Our other goals would include operating 15 chicken tractors, building a poultry processing facility on site. Added to that we would be putting a machine shop with power.

What are your long term goals

Our long term goals would most definitely depend on the property.

Our most ambitious goals would be continue increase infrastructure and land while maintaining the family farm. We would ultimately liked to grow to a 600 member CSA for produce as well as farm stand with pastured poultry.

Describe your housing needs

If the opportunity is perfect we would gladly live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home. However, ideally we require a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house. House does not have to be fully updated, we would happily make repairs if need! We just ask that the house be livable immediately.
