Like an old tree in the forest my mother passed away a few months ago and I now find myself with resources in which to grow in a new direction. I am looking to purchase a small acreage to live on and start a farm/nursery business. My vision is to create a permaculture farm/garden from which (eventually) I will harvest seeds and cuttings for my nursery stock. However, I am still exploring a lot of options and open to creative ideas to support sustainable/ecological cultivation of our land.
Not sure yet.
My family had a tree farm and I helped with my father’s small logging business. My mother did a lot of gardening with which I helped and when my children were young, I spent several years doing work/trade on Midway Farms between Corvallis and Albany. I have a degree in Biology and coursework in forestry.
Establish a vigorous permaculture garden from which to source a majority of my nursery stock. Will probably need to produce some short term stock to generate quicker income while getting established.
I would like to earn enough to begin building my own passive/net zero/natural house.
Preferably a 3 bedroom/2 bath house but would be willing to consider something less if there is a creative solution to provide enough space for myself and 2 nearly adult children.
