Seeking to lease or sharecrop: 5 + acres in the neighborhood of NW Washington County for integrated Cattle, Poultry etc.

Land Seeker Description

Our family has been raising chickens, pigs, and vegetables over the last 14 years as us kids grew up on 7 acres in the Coast Range.  Recently, we’ve added a couple of dairy cows. We just welcomed our 6th bovine: a heifer calf!  We would like more possibilities to grow our herd and improve our understanding of management of breeding, grazing, and productivity on the land.  We have been inspired by the approach of Joel Salatin among others, and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to nurture these creatures in their God-given ability to produce good things for us to enjoy and share with others, all while improving the quality of the land they live on.

Initially, we’re looking for a place to intensely manage the grazing of our younger stock, then add a few more head with market beef in mind.  Egg laying chickens would follow with their phenomenal pest reduction and energy conservation skills.  Then, perhaps some meat poultry and honey bees.  We are open to other beneficial integrations, such as shade trees (lumber, fruit, or nuts) and have time and strength to implement them.  We are very interested in adding commercial value to poor quality or unimproved land through properly managing livestock interaction.

We’d need a source of clean drinking water and daily access to the land. We would provide our own tidy electric fencing.

We will happily pay to use the land, and are also open to sharing the profits and or produce of the commercial activities.

What features of the property are essential?

Water for livestock to drink.

Describe your farming experience

Grew up homeschooled on the land with parents learning and teaching the kinds of things you'd read in "Country Living". My first business venture was a weaner pig, inspired by the example of Almanzo in "Farmer Boy". I've worked with the chickens and vegetable garden since I was little. The last 5 years, I've slowly added intensively managed grazing to our small parcel of land.
