I’m a small scale organic flower farmer in St. Johns and I’m looking to expand a little! 1/4 – 1 Acre is plenty of space for me on top of what I already farm at my house. I want to add vegetable farming into the mix as well. I started out growing veggies, then it morphed into flowers, and flowers have dominated the whole space for a few years. So with extra space I can do both! The land needs to be somewhat close to St. John’s.
Good soil, ideally already broken into but not a must.
Water access for irrigation
Generally level site that's already cleared and not an overgrown jungle of brambles.
I've been farming flowers for 3 years. I grow with a high-intensity strategy- literally using every square foot of space and planting close together to increase my yield. I produce enough flowers to supply handfuls of local florists with weekly wholesale blooms, as well as supply flowers to my own wedding floral business. I currently farm about a 1/4 acre.
My short term plan is to expand my current growing opporation, doubling my current production, so I can provide more flowers to pnw florists and businesses. That means increasing the number of varieties I grow, as well as using seasonal extension techniques to offer flowers on either end of the growing season. I want to grow vegetables again as well, especially seasonal items like pumpkins, etc.
I plan on expanding out of my home design studio and into running a design studio/shop store front in St. Johns in the next 10 years, while farming a generally small plot of land to provide florals for the store front and wedding design business. If there's a possibility of my owning this plot of land, that would be a plus.
No housing needed. I live in St. Johns.
