Land Seeker Description

OneUp Farm is a mushroom farm startup seeking a small forest plot for a low impact, traditional, log based mushroom farm.

An ideal location for our agroforestry project would be on the margins of an already established farm, with 1 or more acres of mixed forest that is suitable for sustainable thinning.



What features of the property are essential?

Mixed forest with conifers (cedar, pine, fir) and deciduous trees (alder, maple, oak).
Willingness to fell trees. Stands of deciduous trees will be thinned in fall/winter, cut to length, and stacked under the shade and shelter of the conifers (which will remain untouched).
The land must be accessible by van.

Describe your farming experience

We are a couple with a passion for sustainable agriculture, and community food security. Over the last 5 years we have converted our 0.1 acre lawn into a highly productive garden.
Harrison has an engineering background and is an avid mycology hobbyist.
Em is a full time student at OSU's school of agriculture (planned graduation in 2023), and is a former multi-unit retail manager with over a decade of business management experience.

What are your short term goals for the land

Begin a low-impact agroforestry operation to augment our controlled environment mushroom operation.
Scale up mushroom cultivation and build relevant contacts and relationships within the farming community, the food service industry, and the community at large.
Reinvest in relevant capital improvements to expand capability and capacity.

What are your long term goals

Purchase forest land in the coastal mountain range/foothills for sustainable agroforestry and mushroom cultivation op.
Acquire requisite capital to vertically integrate the operation to eliminate as many external inputs as possible.
Support growth within the local farming community and offer relevant mycological services (e.g. spawn or block production, consulting, etc.)
