Land Seeker Description

My partner and I are looking to start a small market farm specializing in seasonal vegetables, herbs, and canned goods. We hope to start small and expand our volume and selection of products over time. Our goal is to use organic, sustainable, no or low till practices to promote improved soil quality using only hand tools.

What features of the property are essential?

Access to water, and potentially electricity if possible.

Describe your farming experience

I grew up around farms, but my only experience is being an avid gardener and consumer of any literature on organic farming I can find.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

I hope to spend the first few years building any required farm infrastructure while building soil quality and determining which crops work best on my new piece of land. I also hope to begin figuring out my market. I'd also like to use this time to network and find any potential areas for collaboration with other farmers in the area.

What are your long term goals

I hope to expand my market during this time, and possibly start producing a CSA.

Describe your housing needs

None, I own a home in Salem.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I hope to quickly become part of the farming community by immersing myself in it. As a farmer, I also plan to welcome anyone on my farm who is interested in sharing knowledge or learning.
