I have been farming, working at plant nurseries, and backyard gardening for the past 15 years. I completed a certificate in Ecological Horticulture program in 2005 at the University of Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology and Sustainable food systems. I am currently working part time at Full Plate Farm in Ridgefield Washington growing tomatoes and chicories for wholesale as well as growing a diversity of crops for their winter CSA. I’m looking for land to grow fruit trees as well as other perennial and annual crops.
Irrigation infrastructure, electricity.
I became interested in horticulture while working at a retail plant nursery in high school. I then began volunteering on farms in Colorado, Tennessee, and North Carolina during my college years. I then went to University of Santa Cruz to complete the apprenticeship program at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable food systems. After completing that program I worked on various small farms in California (Central Coast and Bay Area) and created a kitchen gardening business. In recent years I have been working seasonally on a farm in southern Washington called Full Plate Farm that has a winter CSA and also grows heirloom tomatoes and chicories for sale at New Seasons and Providore.
I'd like to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables for sale to local markets and restaurants. I'm particularly interested in cultivating fruit trees, tomatoes, greens, flowers, and mushrooms. I'd approach the first 5 years as a series of experiments getting to know the land and testing out the market/profitability for various crops. I'm willing to lease during this time.
I'd like to eventually produce and sell value-add products such as beverages and fermented foods. I'm also interested in potentially providing educational experiences and programs.
It would be ideal to have a 1-2 bedroom residence I can live in, but it is not necessary.
