Hello! I am an acupuncturist, herbalist, and aspiring herb farmer with a commitment to supporting the health of the planet. I would like to find a small (approx 1 acre?) area of farmland to work – organic certification is not necessary, but I prefer to work on land that has not been sprayed, and is not near land being sprayed (to avoid spray drift). Since I am starting out, a flexible arrangement would be ideal: I can grow things that would be beneficial to you in addition to the herbs I would like to cultivate for my products, and/or, I can offer my products and services in exchange for the land usage, particularly while I am getting started.
access to water is essential, but for the first herbs I would like to grow, the water needs are primarily at the beginning while establishing the plants, after which they can be dry farmed, or mostly dry farmed.
I have had some farming experience in my youth with small groves (citrus, avocado) in south florida. I have been working with a couple of farmers locally, trying to get more exposure, and I feel I would like to take on a project at this point.
I currently make herbal extracts and combine them into formulas for my patients. I want to work toward a vertically integrated business, and one of the next steps in that process is organically growing a few of the herbs for products that I am making.
Long term I would like my business to be vertically integrated: growing the herbs I use, extracting them in-house, formulating, and distributing them.
I have a home in portland and I do not need housing from this arrangement.
I would like to find a good match with people who are open to giving an aspiring farmer and entrepreneur an opportunity to build something. I am happy to offer what I can to make the arrangement work well, whether that be a reasonable rental fee, growing produce for a family, or providing acupuncture for someone with chronic pain.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
