Seeking Small Acreage with Housing Option Near Helvatia/Hillsboro

Land Seeker Description

Hello, I have been farming for many years and would like to continue a small business on land that has housing to allow for easy access and less time commuting. A simple cash lease might work best but hope to trade produce as well. With ideally improving someone else’s land I hope that any organic inputs and other measurable improvements can be considered as part of the lease compensation/trade. Thanks for reading!

What features of the property are essential?

Most important for me would be reliable housing arrangements enabling me flexible access to the land.

Describe your farming experience

I have more than 15 years of experience farming mainly vegetables in Oregon using all types of methods.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Short term is to commercially farm to provide additional income by selling produce within the community. I like dry farming using tarps applied to the fields in late winter to conserve/bank moisture for growing in the summer. Not interested in using tractors, I have spent way too many hours on equipment. So, small, human scale, targeted skilled labor, low inputs. No till farming methods are preferred.

What are your long term goals

Longterm aspirations would be figure out a way to spend less time working and still make a profit. Relying on more perennial plantings with even less water needs, table grapes, hardy kiwi, figs, persimmons, and perennial herbs are all of interest.
I would like to install hoop houses with rainwater catchment options to extend harvest seasons.

Describe your housing needs

I live in the Rock Creek neighborhood, but am looking for housing on site as well to make working/commuting easier and more flexible on nights, early mornings, and weekends.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

Just be myself, or actually a better version of myself. probably try to smile more, these masks have been a little stiffling and I easily forget to smile when the mask does finally come off.
