Hello – I am in the process of relocating to Oregon, and am searching for land for a small family herb farm. Ideally it would be land I could live on – either established housing or space for an RV hook up. I am interested in land for long term use.
I have had a small herb farm/business for 18 years in North Carolina, and am wanting to move this business to Oregon. The herb business consists of selling potted plants – medicinal and culinary herbs, vegetable starts, and various annual and perennial pollinator friendly flowering plants. I also sell cut herbs, as well as oils, salves, dried herb blends, soaps, and various herbal products I make with herbs I grow. To do this I need land on which I can set up at least one or two greenhouses (simple hoop houses) for seeding and plant starts, as well as land I can establish herb beds and vegetable gardens.
My ideal scenario would be property that allows me to live on it to create a homestead for my family, as well as my business. My family consists of me and my 18 year son, as well as a few dogs and cats. We would love to be able to have a few chickens and ducks, as well as a few goats. We like to grow a lot of our own food, so having the small flock of farm animals would allow us eggs and milk for consumption and personal cheese making.
I am open to any creative ideas that get us on the land. We would like to find land we could stay on long term, as it can take a few years to establish really good garden beds for cut herbs. We have, in the past, had cows, pigs, goats, and poultry, so are open to helping others with their family farm animals.
About us: we love to live simple, quiet lives. I spend most of my time working with the plants, animals, and in the gardens. My free time usually finds me reading a book. My son has spent his 18 years experimenting with various homestead projects – he has knowledge and experience with primitive building/survival skills, raising bees, has built his own forge, reads and writes poetry, writes songs, and is teaching himself guitar.
We are flexible about when to move onto the property, esp. now with all the uncertainty with isolating, closures, jobs, etc.
The property would need water, electricity, any structures already on property would be a bonus.
I have had a family farm/homestead for 18 years. We started as an organic vegetable farm, selling non certified organic produce, flowers, and herbs at a local tailgate market, as well as to restaurants and through our CSA. Over the years I have transitioned to being mostly an herb farm, selling over 200 variety of herbs and vegetable starts. I primarily grow heirloom and hard to find vegetable varieties. We have had over the years cows, pigs, goats, chickens, and ducks.
I would like to put up one or two greenhouses (simple hoop houses, not the big industrial greenhouses) for plants, as well as establish gardens for vegetable and herbs. Ideally I would get a space at one or two tailgate markets to sell herb plants, cut herbs, vegetables, and herbal products. I would also sell herbal products online.
To continue with the herb business - selling plants, herbs, and vegetables. Be creative and flexible to grow the business how it needs to grow to support my family financially and spiritually.
The property would have to have housing on it, or allow for an RV set up. Our housing needs are simple - we spent years living in an off the grid small cabin, so simple housing in not a problem.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
