Seeking small acreage for beekeeping

?

Land Seeker Description

Experienced hobby beekeeper with aspirations to grow into a commercial business.  I am adding 10 hives next season and looking for a second location to keep these 10 hives.  I have 3 years experience with beekeeping and currently moving through OSU’s master beekeeping program. I’m looking to lease or purchase 1-2 acres in Marion, Polk, Clackamas or Multnomah counties.

What features of the property are essential?

limited use of pesticides. I don’t need irrigation but close proximity to a well, river or stream where the bees can get water is high on the wish list. Additionally close proximity to other farms and forage for the bees would be most ideal.

Describe your farming experience

I grew up farming: vegetables, fruit trees, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens. As an adult I am mostly interested in honey. I also sit on the local watershed council board and help manage my father’s land.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

10 hives added to the site this spring, scaling to 50 within the next 3 years.

What are your long term goals

100 hives.

Describe your housing needs

n/a. I live in Silverton, and hoping to find a location within an hour’s drive for the apiary site.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I welcome the opportunity to work with folks of all backgrounds and look forward to learning from others.
