Solid Farming Couple Seeking Farming Opportunity With Housing

Land Seeker Description

We are a married couple both in our early forties and we have been married for 20 years. Robert has worked in hospitality for the same business going on 20 years and Korrie currently works as a tax accountant with the opportunity to work from anywhere with WIFI.

In 2019 we leased two acres of farmland as a first step to owning our own farm.  In 2020 we were looking to expand our farm so we sold our home and moved to a new lease in Dufur in January 2020. Due to personal issues in our landlord’s life the property is being sold and our lease is coming to an end in December 2021.

This is our second year with our own farm, but Robert has worked on farms over the years and has knowledge well past beginner level.

We are looking for a self sufficient lifestyle and we are open to growing all types of crops. We have renovated three homes already, so we are open to challenges. We are extremely hard workers and now that our child is grown we are ready to follow our dreams.

We are looking for at least 3 acres with a home or homesite as well as irrigation rights. We would love the opportunity to learn from a mentor, but with our skills we are able to run a farm on our own as well. We would like to run a market garden including vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, hemp, fruit trees, dairy goats, chickens and more.

What features of the property are essential?

Electricity and irrigation are vitally important to us. The land would at least need to have the option for us to build a home(trailer) and shop and other infrastructure as well.

Describe your farming experience

We have multiple years experience with backyard gardening. We have worked on indoor hydroponic farms and outdoor Christmas tree farms.
We are currently running our own outdoor industrial hemp and vegetable farm. The set up of the farm included designing and installing an irrigation system, running electricity, preparing the field, creating plastic mulch rows by hand and growing 1,500 plants from seed.
We have experience with propagating plants as well as growing in greenhouses. We also have experience with organic practices and creating a nutrient feeding program.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

In the first 5 years we would like to establish a self sufficient lifestyle growing a variety of items that we can sell in subscription style farm boxes as well as participate in farmer's markets and sell to restaurants throughout Oregon. We also hope to become a part of a community and to sign a multi year lease in order to help us establish a brand and home.

What are your long term goals

We would like to continue to grow in the community and use our experience to teach young people about farming. We plan to add livestock starting small and growing as our skills and needs grow.

Describe your housing needs

We are a two person family and we would prefer a smaller home, however, we are open to all the options.
