Hello! My name is Sasha. I have been farming vegetables and seed for the last 8 years. I currently lease 20 acres of irrigated farmland in Husum Washington, where I grow primarily seed garlic for the wholesale market. I also grow mixed vegetables for our local food up, and sell some seed through different seed companies. I’m looking for farmland (with a home) to lease or purchase. My counties of interest include Multnomah, Clackamas, or Washington County.
Water rights , prime ag soil, organic certifiable, a home.
I apprenticed and worked on organic vegetable farms for four years before starting my own farm in 2020. I've been farming full time, running my own farm business, for the last five years.
I plan to grow 2 acres certified organic garlic each year, on a four year rotation. I also plan to grow about a half acre of mixed vegetables and vegetable seed.
My longterm goals are to continue to farm and to gain some stability/securty in my farm and Homelife through a land and home purchase.
I'm looking for a small, healthy, 2-3 bedroom home.
Growing food, like most everything humans do, doesn’t just emerge out of some unconscious instinctive drive. The ways in which we tend to the land and feed ourselves and our communities have emerged out of generations of practice and shared knowledge and experience. These cultural artifacts and traditions, so essential to the thriving of every society and community for the whole of modern humanity’s existence, have in so many places been stripped from peoples’ hands and fallen into obscurity. This program offers students from diverse backgrounds an introduction into agriculture through the lens of working with plants that are culturally relevant to them.
