We are a family of 6 interested in working together to provide nutritional foods for our family and community. We love working outside and caring for creation.
We are only looking for a farm with housing established and at least basic infrastructure for farming established, such as irrigation and storage buildings to start our farm business.
Established housing and at least basic infrastructure for farming, such as irrigation and storage buildings. We would love to find a farmer who can mentor us so we can see how they’ve cared for the land in the past.
We grew up with large family gardens and have continued gardening with our children on a smaller scale. This includes flowers, annual vegetables, and perennial berries. We have no professional farming experience yet.
Our short-term goal (1-3 years) is to learn farm management and best practices.
Immediately start production of annual crops to be sold at farmers markets, with the intent of networking in the local community to establish a CSA and/or distribution channels through local grocery stores or produce sellers. Establish quick-growing perennials such as asparagus and berries. Establish an understanding of our seasonal business cycle.
Mid-term (3-10 years):
Increase production of annual crops to meet demand and begin including established perennials. Attempt to establish primary distribution through grocery stores and produce sellers. Plant appropriate perennials for long-term production (fruit & nut trees).
Long-term (10-50 years):
Maintain the land and farming business for my children (or another generation to mentor if my children don't wish to carry it on).
Continue producing food sustainably for our family and community. Sustainability for us recognizes the need to be profitable but ensure the resources we use are renewed from one generation to the next.
We need space for a family of six. In our minds that means a home with at least 3 bedrooms and 1600 sqft.
As a philosophy, we ought to love our neighbor as ourself. Practically this means making an effort to see a situation from the perspective of somebody else, then acting for that person’s good as much as your own. I suppose in farming this would mean considering ways to help other farmers that may seem different than me, to work so that communities I don’t identify with have access to the same food my family does, and to consider how my use of resources may impact others who draw from the same resources.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
