Seeking Purchase or Lease: 5+ acres in Marion or Coos County

Land Seeker Description

Mother and adult son, we are seeking acreage upon which to live and grow (for sale and personal consumption) a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs, while also raising chickens and ducks for eggs, milking goats, rabbits for manure (possibly angora rabbits for “wool”), as well as earthworms, meal worms, crickets and other feeder insects. Additionally, we intend to grow aquatic pond and aquarium plants, while breeding some variety of small feeder and/or pet fish.

Our ultimate goal is to purchase our own land, but as affordable properties are currently hard to come by, we are also interested in the possibility of leasing land to work in the mean time, until we can make a purchase.

What features of the property are essential?

Water, electricity, sewage hook-ups. Some “out buildings” (garage, shed, barn) will be needed for housing animals, storage and work space. Small pasture space.

Describe your farming experience

No direct experience in farming. Previously owned home with backyard garden, greenhouse and large blueberry patch. We have both invested much time and effort into our local community garden each season for the past 5 years. This time includes work preparing beds at the beginning and end of each season, composting, fertilizing, extensive weeding, laying cloth and mulching walkways to suppress weeds, building and painting storage sheds.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Sale of garden/greenhouse produce, chicken/duck eggs, worms/insects, compost &/or manure, pond/aquarium plants & fish.

What are your long term goals

Once stable, we will be ready to expand into raising dairy goats, making sale of milk, cheese and other goat milk based products (soaps, lotions, etc).

Describe your housing needs

We will need at least 2 bedrooms, 1 and ½ to 2 bath. Some sort of garage or covered car-port preferred.
