Seeking purchase or lease: 5+ acres in Lane County

Land Seeker Description

Hi There!

My name is Memorie and my family’s goal is to start a small farm business.

I’ve been working remotely in the tech industry for over 6 years, but previously spent time on many farms as an extra hand when I was hitchhiking through the US. I have helped on dairy farms, organic vegetable farms, fruit farms, tree farms, you name it. My dream is to have my own farm for medicinal herbs, fruits (for small batch wine), and to rescue dogs. Unfortunately, getting started seems to be the hardest hurdle as you need at least 3 years of Farm management experience in order to be seriously considered for a loan to purchase land. So for the time being, I am looking for a farm to rent/lease, so that I can gain the necessary experience. I likely will have to do this during my down time, while continuing to work remotely in the marketing/tech industry (for covering bills) but nothing would make my heart happier than to wake up on a farm every day.

That being said, my son is autistic and is enrolled in an amazing program provided by the 4j school district. I’d like to remain in Lane County, preferably close to Eugene, so that he can continue through the program for school. We are okay with commuting for him, but will definitely need to stay within the western side (Crow, Lorain, Veneta, Elmira, Cheshire, Junction City, etc).

If you’re considering selling your property or are looking for hard working renters who will cherish your farm as much as you do, please consider our small family!

What features of the property are essential?

On site living quarters with electricity. Other essentials can be worked out as far as farming goes. I am a big fan of improving rental properties as long as the owner is okay with it. So if a barn needs to be built or irrigation installed, I am happy to help with that labor after approval.

Describe your farming experience

When I hitchhiked during the 2008 recession (2007 - 2010) I lived/worked on many farms all across the USA. I have helped with a variety of tasks from basic animal husbandry to migrant farm work picking fruits, vegetables. I lived on an organic farm in Florida for the longest period of time and thoroughly enjoyed the hard work, dedication and comradery of farm labor. Building and growing things is my physical passion.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

For a land lease situation - we can continue to farm what is currently being done on said property (herbs, fruits, vegetables) or if new crops would need to be started then we would primarily focus on herbs and vegetables.

What are your long term goals

For a lease-to-own or land sale situation - We would be focusing on herbs and vegetables, fruit and berries for wine, and possibly chickens & goats for meat.

Describe your housing needs

We are a family of 3, with a 1 year old English Cream Retriever and a 19 year old cat (he's on his way out, probably won't live to 2023). We'd need 2 bedrooms, 1 bath at minimum.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I do not tolerate bigotry. I'm a very outspoken BLM supporter and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. All are welcome, regardless of their race, gender, identity, faith, etc - As long as they do not harm others, verbally or otherwise.
