Seeking pasture for stocker cattle southwest oregon

Land Seeker Description

My name is Klay Strand. I want to lease land improve and to raise stocker cattle during the summer to sell at fall/winter auctions. I am not an experienced rancher, this would be my first time but everyone has to start somewhere. An ideal lease would be a multi year lease and I would like to be able to make the land as user friendly as possible with the land owners permission i.e, secure fencing and corrals, good water system, loading chute. I am currently a merchant mariner and I work a week on week off rotation and I would like to be able to continue doing that while I raise the cattle, so I would be sure to have the property as air tight as I can make it. I have ranchers in the family and I would like to pursue this path on my own but any tips and advice on all aspects of the business are a blessing. Thank you.

What features of the property are essential?

Water rights or access to water. Road access. Grazable pasture. A hay barn would be a bonus. I pasture is fenced that would be great, if not, permission to fence pending long term lease. corrals and loading chute would be great.

Describe your farming experience

I grew up spending summers on distant relatives cattle ranch, I have been around and seen the process from birth to auction. Although I have never raised cattle on my own I do have a support group of experienced ranchers and am a very quick study.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

1) Lease land and improve to suit my needs
2) Establish network for buying and selling stocker cattle at auction.
3) Establish skills to make consistent profit to expand my business.
4) Acquire equipment and assets necessary to own my own land someday
My first 5 years will be a massive learning curve but I am confident and excited for the experience.

What are your long term goals

My end goal is to support myself financially from the raising and selling of cattle to no longer have to sail as a merchant mariner and be able to provide sustainable food products and make a positive impact on society.

Describe your housing needs

I am renting a home in Myrtle Point, OR but if a lease does have a home available I would be interested in that as well.
