?

Land Seeker Description

My name is Beth, I am a mother to 2 kids and I am working towards being a farmer. My goal with the farm business is growing and providing pesticide free, organic, nutrient rich produce and crops, with a focus on regenerative farming with great respect and care of the land, soil, water, and all organisms. Seeking a work trade for lease, partnership, or farm collaborative/community. I have a small amount of outside income to cover my own expenses, utility payments and basic farming/growing needs. I have 4 years gardening experience, and part time experience with day to day operations of a small family owned business. I rode horses for 10 years and am comfortable working with livestock. I learn pretty quick with hands-on experience and get very efficient and whatever I do.

I am open discussing possibilities and creative solutions. I would like at least partial/small acreage to grow on, what I grow would depend on circumstances and land. I would be open to helping someone build a business on a small farm, work/lease trade, partnership, or other situation. Prefer some type of housing available. Prefer Salem/Turner/Aumsville/Jefferson or close to.

What features of the property are essential?

At least on site well/septic preferred. Open to possibilities and will farm according to situation including dry farming.

Describe your farming experience

My experience is mostly from organic gardening the last 4 years. I have experience growing over 20 different crops(mostly vegetables), propagating, seed starting and transplanting, direct sowing, and more. My first garden I removed sod, double dug, fertilized with aged manure, amended soil, planned out crop location considering sun and watering needs and companion plantings, added temporary trellising and drip irrigation, and successfully grew nearly all the vegetables, and some fruits/berries, for my household for the summer and into the fall.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

Start and grow my farm business providing high quality food using organic and regenerative methods. Growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, and possibly nursery stock. Growing to sell at a farm stand / local farmers market.

What are your long term goals

Own my own farm and/or be part of a farm collaborative/community. Include education on native and indigenous plants/foods. Increase variety of foods offered and farm direct value added foods such as jams/jellies, canned fruits, dried herbs/spices, etc. sold at an on-farm stand, farmers market, and a CSA. Possibly adding fiber animals (angora rabbits/sheep/alpaca) / egg producers in the future.

Describe your housing needs

Hoping to find a place with housing for myself and 2 children. Provided or room to bring in something of my own (rv/tiny home/travel trailer). Can put in work to housing if needed. If 1-3 bedroom housing could be provided, may be able to compensate with rent payments depending on the situation.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I will create a welcoming space where all people feel respected and valued as individuals, promoting empathy, inclusivity, and open-mindedness.
