Land Seeker Description

We are are small extended family(4 adults and a child) seeking to reconnect with a more earth centric life and eventually share that life and our learnings through education and our food.

What features of the property are essential?

Well stewarded land with water and electricity. Housing preferred but open to get creative.

Describe your farming experience

I cut my teeth in agriculture on a conventional dairy farm milking 100 head herd of Holstein along with conventional filed cropping (beans, corn, hay)

I went to school for horticulture and fell in love with sustainable and alternative agriculture focused on holistic permaculture practices, integrated pest management, and exploring the relationships we all have with our food systems.

I've worked as a foreman for an 200 acre apple orchard

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

Years one and two will primarily be about learning the land. Evaluating existing production systems and developing the plan for the next 3-5 years. A heavy focus will be given on wild systems, bio diversity, and pollinator plantings.

We plan to take a highly varied approach to production relying a many different crops included but not limited to. Culinary and medicinal herbs
Culinary and medicinal mushrooms
Microgreens
Plant guilds
Berries
Fruits
We will look to sell our crops through markets, and develop a CSA program.

Ideally we will raise a small number of animals mostly for personal use.

What are your long term goals

Long term plans include further diversification both in crops and farm enterprise.

Farm school - we believe a connection to our food, this planet, and eachother should be instilled in our future generations through nature and play based learning. The farm will host (and supply food for) an educational center for children during the days. And seminars and classes for all ages during weekends

Farm table
This connection to our food and the beautiful land it comes from is central to our farm and the Farm table experience. People will come to the farm to experience a curated evening highlighted by hyper local/seasonal food ( from the farm), wine, and community.

Describe your housing needs

Flexible to many living arrangements. Prefer on site.
