Seeking lease-to-own in Bandon and surrounding areas

Land Seeker Description

With a large family that loves our tiny urban farm, we have been looking to learn and grown into a permanent operation. Raising ducks, chickens, geese, turkeys, and pigs as well as a greenhouse and large garden have been our passion for years. While we never at any time had all of the above projects going, we have succeeded with them all since we moved to our half acre lot in the city. My family is a wheat farming family from Eastern Washington and I want to go back to the land, but the high desert isn’t for me. I love the area of Bandon and the possibilities of farming there. With 6 teenagers who are great workers and want to establish a generational farm, we are excited to get connected to a permanent home. We would need help navigating the work, but aren’t afraid of long hours and sweat. We have a background in construction and customer service.

What features of the property are essential?

water rights, barn structures, partial woodland

Describe your farming experience

I have years of gardening in many climates including Southern Washington and know a lot about systems management.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

2 years learn the trade of commercial farming for a preferably plant product Do all the labor, selling, negotiation in increasing amounts over that time. Have a lease during that time so we can establish mentoring or farming history to prepare for a loan. Share in the harvest profits during this time.

What are your long term goals

3- 5 years, purchase either the farm we learned on or one similar to the commercial planting we learned. Get an FDA or USDA loan for the farm and take over operations. Mentor can choose to continue the relationship mentoring as we go for a continued part of the harvest profits.
Live on or near the commercial land we work and establish a generational farm with our teenage children.

Describe your housing needs

We are able to rent or renovate any available housing or to acquire housing nearby off the farm. Willing to trade housing for renovation if that is desired.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

We are a mixed family from adoption and foster care. We include everyone and will continue the culture of inclusion as we work.
