Seeking lease/purchase/partnership: 1/4 plus acres in western Oregon

Land Seeker Description

I am a 36 year old male with a background in forestry, landscaping, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and construction/welding. I am passionate about land stewardship and have done lots of volunteering and work-trade. I am interested in principles of indigenous land management and eco-agriculture.  I have worked and WWOOFed on small organic farms and lived in ecovillage communities. I am interested in leasing or owning land as part of a collaborative farm/forest community to start a farm business which sells locally.

What features of the property are essential?

water rights, ability to build home on land

Describe your farming experience

I grew up helping family and friends in their gardens. I later worked toward and received an Associate Degree in Forest Resources Technology where I learned all aspects of growing, maintaining, and sustainable harvest of many natural resources within an ecosystem. I worked as an organic farm worker/contractor for 6 months at Sojourn Farms, O’Brien, OR. I got a Permaculture Design Certificate as an intern and garden worker for almost 2 years at Lost Valley Education Center in Dexter, OR. While living at Kailash Ecovillage in Portland, I volunteered in their gardens for one year. I WWOOFed (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) on multiple organic farms in western Oregon for about a year. I was in the Rogue Farm Corps 2021 internship program for 3 months near Medford, OR. I have experience in animal husbandry (cows, pigs, goats, horses, chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats), growing, harvesting, and processing vegetable, herbs, and fruits, working with irrigation systems, maintaining tools, and doing minor machine repair.

What are your short term goals for the land

Short term my goal is to be part of and live on a small-scale organic farm that uses permaculture and sustainable agriculture principles to grow diverse crops for the local community. I have some savings so when I find an opportunity and others to partner with I hope to rent/buy land and work toward the creation of a small-scale organic farm.

What are your long term goals

Long term, I want to work within a group of people in a successful financially stable partnership so I can continue farming over the long haul without burning myself out. I want to be part of a farm that values people over profits, but is successful in sustaining a balanced life style for its farmers and stewards the land. I think I would have a better chance of being successful at farming working together with others to establish a small-scale farm business.

Describe your housing needs

On site housing with water and electricity. Could be a room, tiny home, or RV site.
