Our family is outgrowing our own 7 acres, and our small cattle/dairy herd is growing! We have been practicing Joel Salatin’s method of grazing rotation, with the goal of restoring and improving the pasture while raising healthy cattle. We would love to be able to expand our herd, growing more beef cattle for the local market, and bring your pasture to life in the process! We live west of Hillsboro, out Hwy 26, so North Hillsboro through the Banks, Manning, Buxton, Timber area would be ideal.
Pasture, Water source. We are interested in restoring pasture, so even if it is not in great condition, we would be interested in trying to bring it back to life.
We have been homesteading and small scale farming since 2006. In recent years, with our 5 children much older and interested in farm production, we have been increasing our productivity and the year-round animals on our farm. Our 15 year old son has been experimenting with growing wheat. He and our oldest son have been growing our dairy/cattle herd. We usually raise weaner pigs each year, but are looking to have year-round hogs soon. For 15 years we have pasture raised 100-250 meat chickens each spring. We also have begun to hatch our own chicks for our laying hen flock. We also plant a large garden each year.
We would like to find pasture to place our steer and our bull on and add to their numbers to raise meat or dual breed cattle. We would also like to raise pastured pork year round, rather than relying on purchasing piglets each spring. We also hope to start honeybees, as well as increase our garden production to have more available to sell.
Our youngest son is 15 and is very interested in farming, so we would like to help him have experiences to learn and get started. He is interested in farming hay, wheat, or other field crops.
We will keep the animals secure. We will improve the land, making it more beautiful and enjoyable.
