Seeking lease/partnership/trade, open to mentoring

Land Seeker Description

Hello, my name is Joel Nachtigal and my wife Natalie and I are looking to relocate from Nashville, TN. We currently have a back yard vegetable garden, herbs, and a few laying hens. We’re looking to lease/trade/partner with experienced landowners to learn from them as well as begin our own journey to being more self-sufficient and building a small homestead.

What features of the property are essential?

Ideally on-site sewer and electric, water rights or well, some pasture, barn.

Describe your farming experience

I grew up on 100 acres in Missouri where I spent several seasons tending to my family’s large vegetable garden, maintaining fences, mowing, and clearing land. I also have several years experience in carpentry, from building sheds to completely gutting/remodeling bathrooms, installing modern plumbing, installing flooring, building fences and small structures. Most of Natalie’s experience comes from riding and training horses, caring for small herds of livestock, and backyard gardening.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Our short term goals are to use the land for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, eggs, and possibly poultry for meat and a hog. We’d like to use organic and natural practices to work towards a sustainable and self sufficient lifestyle.

What are your long term goals

Eventually we’d like to develop a small homestead with enough excess produce to sell to local CSA’s and markets.

Describe your housing needs

There are two of us and we have two well behaved dogs. We are open to any available housing on the property or we have a 20 ft camper, allowing us to be very flexible in terms of living arrangements. Ideally a 30amp electrical connection, water, and sewer hook ups, but we are super interested in going off grid by using solar and a compost toilet if no amentites/housing is available.
