We are a family of 4 looking for some land to live on while expanding farming and land use skills. I currently work as a “plant expert” for an online nursery. I’ve studied agriculture and horticulture at university and graduated in 2024 after working in commercial nurseries and participating in organic agriculture research. We have some experience running a business which we sold a few years ago. My family just moved out of our home to a 40’ camping trailer. We currently live on some land in Wyoming as my husband helps with his father’s work during the warmer months. We also have family near Eugene, Oregon and are considering moving somewhere in the state.
Our long term goals are to farm sustainably while raising our family in a wholesome way. I am versed in cold climate vegetable and fruit production practices, and am looking for more opportunities to apply the knowledge and learn more skills. We have not decided on a location yet, but with family in the state we would like the opportunity to seriously consider areas in Oregon. We think the best way to do this is by actually doing some work on an existing system or working together on a new project. There is potential for longer term partnerships, but that would also be up to the land owner of course.

On site water is needed for us to have drinking water. Some kind of irrigation is needed for good crop production unless a mentor has alternative options to teach us.
I grew up in Nevada and Utah where we always had gardens. My grandparents bred ponies so my love of ag started there. I went to school in Idaho and Utah studying Agronomy, human nutrition and finally getting my 4 year degree in horticulture, crop and soil sciences with a minor in landscape architecture. I’ve mostly worked in wholesale bedding plant nurseries before getting an online job assisting people as they grow and plan their gardens. I did spend some time working as a field hand on our school’s organic farm. I mostly worked with the strawberries as we explored cold climate organic strawberry production.
I want to make the land productive. I’m open to multiple projects, but feel most comfortable with vegetables and small fruits if we were going to be working the land without mentorship. A general goal would be to establish a market and have the land pay for itself (if leasing) within the first 2 years and creating actual surplus within the 5 year timeline.
In 5-10 years we want to have a sustainable practice that allows our kids to learn the love of working with the land and raising some animals and plants. We want our land stewardship to not just be a money hole that we do for fun, but something that is rewarding and beneficial for all of us as a family and for the community around us.
We would like to start out short term while we learn the culture and decide if this is where we will want to end up. We would need somewhere to park the trailer and access to culinary water to fill up our tanks periodically as well as easy enough access for a portable tank dump trailer or a septic hookup. We have a pretty solid solar setup and batteries. My husband works with electrical and is handy with these things. There is definitely potential for a longer term partnership, but that would also be up to the land owner.
We are a family, so we come as a package. We are open to working with others, which is why we are reaching out through the site. The most important thing for us it to be allowed to work and function as a family in whatever setting we are in. We are religious, and we respect and support other beliefs of all sorts and hope we can all learn from each other.
