Seeking Lease (or Lease-to-Own) 2-10 Irrigated Acres for Flower Farming Near Monmouth or Corvallis

?

Land Seeker Description

My girlfriend, daughter and I are looking for an opportunity to start a flower farm. Besides some backyard planter boxes in our backyard of flowers and some wild flowers grown on our Aunt’s blueberry farm, we don’t have much experience. We’ve been obsessively watching videos and reading about processes and practices. After talking for a while, we’ve decided that we actually want to invest in trying flower farming more legitimately. Although one day we’d love to live on a farm with a wrap around porch, surrounded by flowers, we know that we need to start somewhere; a 2-10 acre lease felt right. Ideally, we’d be able to bring a small storage container to the property for storage of items which would include an outdoor sink. More ideally, we could allow folks to come visit the farm and pick (by appointment) but don’t need that to move forward. In addition to the desire to grow flowers, we really want to create an environment for our daughter to learn outdoor skills as she’s loved planting in our boxes and spending time at our family’s farm.

What features of the property are essential?

Irrigation and well. We also need the ability to bring a small storage container to the property to store things in for the operations.

Describe your farming experience

Not a lot. We help on our aunt’s blueberry farm with small tasks like weeding, spreading saw dust, pruning and picking crops and (sometimes) helping with the fertilization. She operates that farm organically with no certification.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

We really want to invest in learning the best processes for growing different flowers so that we can grow into producing more volume on a bigger farm that we (ideally) own.

What are your long term goals

We’d love to be growing different kinds of flowers which we’d sell at our farm as we pick and you pick as well as bringing flowers to markets. We’d also like to learn the process of seeds.

Describe your housing needs

No housing needs.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

Everyone is not only welcomed but encouraged to come help on our farm. We have a diverse group of friends who would likely help but we’d also love to hire out help who we’d LOVE to be diverse.
