Seeking Lease or Lease to Own 1+ Acres with House in Eugene Area

Land Seeker Description

30 year old farmer and musical handy husband seeking land to create a honeybee sanctuary tending bees, flowers, and a large variety of medicinal herbs. Dog friendly housing must be included as we plan to live on site and let our two dogs be farm dogs like their livestock guarding genetics want them to be.

Flexible on many of the details as we are open to it looking many different ways. Size of lot, house features and location are flexible. Ideal circumstance is not near any large conventional farms, to avoid pesticide drift impacting the bees. Ideal space also has easy water access, a home with character (love an old farmhouse with wood floors and a clawfoot tub), space to expand a nursery, and accessibility to Eugene or Portland. Bonuses are existing established perennial gardens, production gardens or orchards, a culture of good local community connections, other farming neighbors to befriend, and room to develop alternative land practices such as solar, permaculture and biodynamics.

Long term goals include a retreat center, community involvement, events, education, and the possibility (with enough land) of fostering a farm incubation program for other small starting farmers.

What features of the property are essential?

House, electricity, water (well and/or water rights a plus), sewer

Describe your farming experience

I have farmed for 10 years, market farming on a variety of organic farms including permaculture internships, biodynamic experience, and now 3 years holistic beekeeping.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

-U pick flowers & herbs
-Tend to soil health

What are your long term goals

-Education space & programming for youth & community
-Farm stand &/or possible cafe or restaurant
-Event space for community events, weddings etc
-Artist in residence cabins for personal retreats
-Farm incubation program for other small farmers

Describe your housing needs

2 to 4 bedroom dog friendly home with access to Eugene or Portland. Large kitchen preferred. Fenced portion of yard ideal. Wood floors, natural light, old well cared for home with preserved history are a big plus.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

Continue to deconstruct my own privileges and internalized conditioning of white supremacy, share resources, share knowledge, collaborate, give space for biopic farmers to hold leadership positions and utilize the land (goal of farm incubation), create meaningful relationships, call out and resolve problematic behaviors that foster unsafe spaces in the first place.
