I am a newly married woman on the search for a farm opportunity for me and my family of 5. we currently have 4 chickens in Albany Oregon. We are looking for land to slowly grow on. Our dream is a small farm with feeder pigs, fryer chickens, laying hens, goats, bees, a miniature donkey, a garden and some crops. We intend on applying a grazing management plan with the animals to properly create a symbiotic relationship between the livestock and the land. Ideally, utilizing rotational grazing of the different species. The fryer chickens and feeder pigs will be butchered and sold directly to the consumer. We also intend on selling extra goats milk, goat cheese, beeswax, homemade items, eggs, and items from the garden straight to the consumer as well.
Essential features are a home, water rights, a well, and at the least the ability to run electricity to out buildings.
I grew up with chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs. I have 2 years experience with goats. I have chicken butchering weekend with my family a couple times a year where we butcher at least 40 Cornish Cross. We also have hog butchering once a year. My husband has no farm experience but is excited to learn.
Within 5 years we will have accumulated all the chickens, goats, pigs and bees, and a reliable relationship with pig and chicken breeders. Have a solid customer base brining in enough revenue to cut costs of feed for livestock by at least half. By using the rotational grazing system, we will have nutrient rich soil to grow a larger, self sufficient garden and area for crops. We will have added an Airbnb camper to add additional revenue. We will begin pairing with outside parties to host events (IE photographers for photoshoots with the animals, a personal trainer hosting goat yoga etc.)
Within 10 years we will own our farm. We will add a small head of cattle to our farm to sell the meat, milk, and maintain the land. We will have added an irrigation system to our property. We will be fully self sufficient as well as grow our own animal feed.
We are a family of 5 and need a house on the property.
