Land Seeker Description

Hello! We are Lauren and Aiden, a down to Earth couple who both have some light farming experience but are eager to learn and connect with fellow farmers! Both of us have been working towards the dream of living on and cultivating a piece of land, connecting with other farmers/gardeners, exploring permaculture, and learning from more seasoned farmers for most of our lives. Before moving to Oregon last year, we lived in a small sustainable community in Texas and maintained 2 acres of vegetable gardens which was a great taste of what’s to come! A little more about each of us:

Lauren: deeply interested in: gardening, permaculture, sustainable building/living, regenerative agriculture, and virtually anything to do with homesteading! I’m an Integrative Health Coach who’s almost finished with my certification, and I own 3 businesses – all of which involve gardening/farming in some way. I’d love to learn from people who have been working in these areas for years!

Aiden: grew up working with his Dad’s general contracting business, until he switched gears to pursue his PhD which he earned in 2019! Now he owns an online media consulting business and works full-time short term contacts in Portland. Interested in sustainable agriculture, Off grid living, sustainable energy production, building and handiwork, and gardening. Also has experience and interest in growing hemp, and would love to work with businesses!

What we’re looking for:

Land – we’re looking for 1.5+ acres of land that includes a living space with running water, plumbing, electrical, at least decent internet (since both of us have online businesses), and is in general a comfortable living space. In terms of the actual land, ideally it will have been used for non-conventional gardening/farming and not have any major roadblocks to growing. At this time we’re not interested in keeping animals of any kind (we’d rather support other farmers by buying their product!) but that could change in the future. Essentially we’re looking to produce as much food for ourselves through gardening, grow herbs for my businesses, and experiment with growing styles and approaches to gardening.

We’d prefer to have some distance and privacy from others on the land (if there are any) but are certainly open to and practice communal/community based living! While we likely wouldn’t be living in a home with other housemates, having people live nearby on the land would be great!

Both of us are flexible and open to creative solutions in terms of work/trade, leasing/renting, or other living/business arrangements. Additionally we’re both reliable, hard workers, eager to learn and explore new techniques and approaches, fast learners, passionate, and driven! Working with others and/or a team comes naturally to both of us and we’re always on a path to greater self-awareness, peacefulness, and respect for the Earth and others. As an LGBTQAI+ couple we’re seeking a situation with like-minded people where that presents no issues (doesn’t mean you have to be LGBTQAI+ yourself).

We’re looking forward to the opportunity to get to know you! 🙂

What features of the property are essential?

Running water or an on-site well, mixture of pasture/woodland would be ideal, a greenhouse would be great! We’re not exactly sure about some of these needs, may need some guidance!

Describe your farming experience

Aiden: grew up engaging in backyard gardening, pursued agriculture-related courses, seasoned in hemp farming (commercial and personal) (indoor and outdoor).

Lauren: grew up heavily involved in backyard farming, constantly pursuing gardening/homesteading/sustainability/regenerative agriculture education and knowledge, some experience with hemp and marijuana cultivation.

Both maintained a 2 acre plot with vegetable/herb gardens for a few years.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

For the self-care product business I own, I’d love to get to the point where I can produce all of the herbs/spices needed for my products. I’d also like to have a shop/studio space where I can make and store products and everything else needed for the business. For our homestead I’d like to share wisdom and knowledge about gardening/farming and create some products for the business as well.

What are your long term goals

Deeply regenerating the land we’re on, maintaining a well-functioning homestead, own land and property, create or join a well-established community (an IC would be ideal!), off grid or mostly, able to run our businesses from home 100%, grow commercial cannabis and hemp.

Describe your housing needs

Looking for land that has a great living space ready to go, including: running water, plumbing, electrical, internet (or ability to support it), at least one separate bedroom (ie not a studio), and is in general a functional place to live. Open to some repairs (Aiden has significant experience with this) but it needs to be liveable upon beginning of agreement. Some flexibility in some areas - reach out to see if it’s the right fit!
