Land Seeker Description

The general description I can give is that a family consisting of 5 kids, and two adults with a few years of experience would like to start our own farm and/or ranch. Myself (Chris) has around 10 years of agriculture experience. I started my Ag. career on a cow/calf operation of 300 head. Helped grow the operation to around 800. We farmed grass, alfalfa and triticale as well as stored corn silage. I have experience in pivot and wheel line irrigation as well as some drip line irrigation. Worked and operated a wide variety of equipment, including a majority of haying equipment. During calving season I learned a lot of vet care, from pulling claves, doctoring cows and calves and started learning A.I. for cows. With the years, My wife (Mary) and I started leaning towards the regenerative agriculture. Mary has many ,many years’ experience as a horse trainer. With this, she uses her guidance, and patience to home school 3 of the 5 of our kids. Mary has helped me on the ranch as much as she could while raising our children. Reason why we are looking into starting our own farm and ranch.

We are very interested in growing and learning how to grow a variety of crops. I’d love to learn how to grow, market and sell garlic, herbs and orchard varieties. The regenerative portion, we would love to input what we have learned and run an operation that helps the land, as well as put the best nutrient food in our bodies for us, our kids and surrounding community.

What features of the property are essential?

Some features that would be essential in our eye would be water rights, established structures and pens as well as some equipment to start the farming process.

Describe your farming experience

I have around 10 years of experience in dry-land and irrigated crops including grass, alfalfa, and triticale.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

Short term would be a farm and/or ranch established with plans of growing in the near future. When I say established, that would be a few animals and at least one specialty crop established in the ground.

What are your long term goals

Our long term would be that the farm/ranch is fully in our name, we have a solid plan of growth, a few more types of animals that can be produced healthy and selling these to local communities. our crops are thriving and different crops are being established or experimenting with to make the farm not only profitable but something that can be passed on to our future generations.

Describe your housing needs

would love to have a place that can house a family of 7, even a 3bd and 2 Bath would work but we are up for options that can be discussed.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

Yes, we are very open to working with anyone regarding their backgrounds as long as they don't try to force their views on us or our children, and I respectfully will do the same. I've worked with and spoke with many people of different backgrounds and always have come up with a common ground. whether we agree or disagree, there are always ways to be nice and respectful.
