Seeking Lease: 5-35 acres in Willamette Valley.

Land Seeker Description

My name is Amber, I am a young farmer looking to start my own small scale, organic, humane, “full circle” farm. I am in my fifth season doing farm work, and currently managing my own enterprise of meat chickens and turkeys. I am experienced in organic, sustainable, and regenerative practices. I am knowledgeable about vegetable production, animal husbandry, and herbal perennials. I’ve worked on small scales and larger scales, in many ecosystems, with a variety of outlets for production. My skills and passion, above all else, are why I believe I will succeed.

I plan to start small with poultry, eggs and veggies. If a larger property is available, it would be ideal for starting a sheep herd as well. I can also see doing value added products in the future after I’m established. I’d like to sell at farmers markets, do a CSA and potentially sell to some restaurants and wholesalers.

Im hoping to lease land with water rights, existing infrastructure, housing available, and have 5-35 acres available for agriculture. However, I’m very flexible and am looking for any way to get started, even if I’m just renting and growing food for my own household initially.

Thanks for reading my profile, I’m excited for the possibilities in store!

What features of the property are essential?

Water rights, utilities in place

Describe your farming experience

I am in my fifth season of farming.
-6 months on 11 acres at a small scale organic farm with sheep, goats, chickens, veggies, and fruit in the Skagit Valley
-3 months on a small scale, off-grid, holistic farm in the Colorado high desert providing cheese, veggies, bread, eggs and herbs
-6 months on a 20 acre certified organic vegetable farm in the Willamette valley, focused on reducing plastic and using solar power, serving markets in Portland and Salem and wholesale outlets in Eugene
-1 year at a 7 acre vegetable, flower, and natural dye farm near Portland, OR selling mainly to restaurants
-3 months at a 14 acre certified organic vegetable farm in the Flathead Valley of Montana dealing with heavy clay soils, heavy production and season extension methods
-I have currently worked at Phoenix Farm, a 30 acre farm with veggies and animals, for 9 months and counting. This farm is described above.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Organic veggies, chickens (layers and broilers), perennial herbs, and if there’s enough space, a herd of sheep for meet. All for market, csa, wholesale or restaurant sales.

What are your long term goals

My long term plan is to establish a sustainable business model based on small scale organic farm practices. I hope ultimately to own land.

Describe your housing needs

A house would be great. 500 sq ft minimal to accommodate two adults and our pet cat. Or a spot to park a trailer with hookups.
