Seeking Lease: 3/4 – 2 Acres in Wider Portland Area for Organic Vegetable Farming

?

Land Seeker Description

We are three young farmers, Chris, Sara, and Isa, who are currently working a 1/4 acre of land; we primarily grow organic vegetables and flowers and utilize low-till farming practices. Combined, we have 10 years of farming experience in the PNW and are excited to keep learning. The magic of growing something from a seed, cultivating it into a plant, and being able to share that product with our community is what motivates us. Honoring the reciprocal relationship between the land, the plants, and ourselves is vital to our work.

Ideally, the land we are looking for would be less than 45 minutes away from Portland, would have a water hook-up for drip irrigation or a sprinkler system, and would have the capacity for a small hoop-house.

What features of the property are essential?

It is essential that this land has enough water for drip irrigation. Land with access to/space for a greenhouse and bathroom access is highly preferred.

Describe your farming experience

Sara has 3.5 years of organic vegetable farm experience and 2.5 years of farm management experience.
Isa has 5 years of experience working on organic vegetable farms and in community gardens and 2.5 years of farm management experience.
Chris has 2.5 years of experience working on vegetable and livestock farms and community gardens. He also has 4 years of experience in forestry and has an interest in permaculture.
We have been managing our farm together for 2 seasons.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

We plan to grow organic, low till vegetables and flowers, which we will primarily sell through a small CSA, markets, and wholesale. Over the next 5 years, we hope to continue to scale up our CSA production. Additionally, we hope to improve the soil health wherever we are farming and create a native, pollinator habitat.

What are your long term goals

Our long-term goal is to purchase our own land to farm on and cultivate a strong community through.

Describe your housing needs

We do not need housing.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

We will actively listen to the voices of other people in our community and use their feedback to improve our practices. The aim is always to hear what our community needs and serve them accordingly.
