Seeking land to raise/graze livestock and start a small meat and egg CSA (lease-to-own, partnership, lease) Housing on site

Land Seeker Description

We are a mature, responsible couple who have been farming full time for the last 6 years. My name is Erin (37) and my partner is Brennan (43). We are currently living in Sonoma County in California but we are interested in moving to Oregon to start our business. I was born just outside of The Dalles, Oregon and have a lots of family in the state.

Using rotational grazing and holistic management, we plan to create a small scale meat and egg CSA. We would like to begin with heritage breed and mix breed pigs and layer ducks/chickens/ and geese. As success grows we would like to bring in small ruminants adding grass fed lamb and goats. Using portable electric fencing and portable structures we will move animals around the landscape to optimize feed and to build strong pasture and forage areas. We would like to use organic practices where possible and are interested in an organic certification.

That said, we are open to partnering with another farmer or land owner. We are also open to employment opportunities as well as work trade situations while we get the ball rolling. Eventually we would like to buy land. A basic lease is great too!

Thanks.

What features of the property are essential?

On site housing, barn would be great!, water, sewer, irrigation, pasture, woodland a plus!, electricity.

Describe your farming experience

We have been actively farming for about 6 years. My expertise is in small ruminant care and dairy. I have extensive dairy goat experience. We have also raised pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, and jersey cows. We have property management skills and have done some orchard work as well as grown fruits and vegetables for personal consumption. I have been a cheese maker for 6 years as well. My partner and I have a background in grocery work and retail sales of local food.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

We would like to build a small meat and egg CSA starting with heritage breed/ cross breed pigs and ducks/geese and chickens. We plan to use a rotational grazing program set up for regeneration of soil and pasture space.

What are your long term goals

We would like to grow this business to incorporate small ruminants ie: goats and sheep.

Describe your housing needs

We would like a modest 1-2 bedroom house (3 bedroom would be fine too if affordable) No tiny homes or RV's. We have 3 well behaved dogs (2 are under 15lbs, one is my herding dog). I can provide references for these dogs as well as deposits. They are adjusted to farm life and are good around people, kids, and livestock.

We would also like to move our small herd (currently 5 animals) of American Blackbelly ewes and our flock of ducks and 2 guard geese along with us. Any animal housing available is a plus but we can build something as well. We use portable electric fencing for sheep and waterfowl.
