Seeking our forever farm. We have been operating a successful mixed vegetable and cut flower farm in Yamhill County on leased land for 5 seasons. Our forever farm farm would include at least 8 acres tillable ground with quality ag soils and a water right. Ideally within a 30-45 minute radius of McMinnville, the current center of our operations.
Water rights are required for our operation. Ground water is ideal, surface water is fine as well.
Class I or II soils preferred.
Existing structures are a bonus but not required.
Ideally there will be power and water already available on site.
We have been running our own farming operation for 5 years, producing mixed vegetables and cut flowers for over 20 local restaurants, a weekly farmers market & a small CSA (community supported agriculture) program. B currently farms full time, managing the day to day operations, seeding, planting, harvesting, crew, and sales. E works full time off farm, and also manages infrastructure, irrigation & cultivation on the farm. B has two additional years of farming experience previous to starting our current farm business.
We are looking for a farm that will allow us to grow our current business, including acreage to grow more vegetable & flower crops, as well as to implement long term crop rotations, cover cropping, and the addition of perennials.
We currently sell to over 20 local restaurants, the McMinnville Farmers Market, and supply a small CSA. All of our product is sold within 25 miles of the farm. If we have more land, we can expand our CSA, potentially add a second farmers market, and grow more product to supply our restaurant client's demand. We are out of growing space on our leased property, and are poised to grow as soon as we have more acreage available to us.
We are also interested in exploring the production of dry beans and grains and selected orchard crops in addition to the vegetables and flowers. We are committed to sustainable growing practices, hiring and training young folks and other aspiring farmers, and serving our community by growing good, clean, healthy food.
We would like to grow and diversify the business, while also farming using methods that enrich the soil & biodiversity of the farmland.
Long term plans would include: planting an orchard, berries, asparagus & other perennial crops; establishing insectaries and native plantings; exploring the production of beans and small grains; expanding fall and winter production through season extension; hiring and training future farmers.
We do not necessarily need there to be a house on the property, though it must be buildable if there is no house currently on site. We intend to live on the property, but have stable housing currently so we can buy land with the intention to build a home.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
