Seeking Land For Lease: 8-30 acres in Southern and Eastern Oregon counties

Land Seeker Description

We are two second generation farmers seeking a plot of land where we can grow industrial hemp. In 2016 we left California where we ran a certified organic vegetable farm and joined the hemp farming community in Oregon where we consulted on our first hemp farm. We bring to this emerging industry, solid farming experience and sound management. We proudly became a crucial part of 70 acre farm which over the passed two seasons has continually increased yield and efficiency. Biodegradable plastic mulch, drip irrigation, irrigation pump installation, greenhouse starts, clones, soil fertility and irrigation scheduling are all areas we are experienced in. We value organic practices, whether certified or not and we have always believed in using organic products and minimizing pesticide inputs. We are ready to take on a plot of our own for high quality hemp flower production and continue researching low input, environmentally conscious farming strategies.

What features of the property are essential?

Water rights a must. Well pump already installed is a plus but we can work with bare bone land too, permitting the soil is decent. Structures are also a huge plus, but if not, we will need to build one or two hoop houses (temporary). Electricity preferred.

Describe your farming experience

We are a farming couple and we both share farming experience but have unique history of our own. Clinton was raised on an organic vegetable farm and started his first small farm in 2008, Helena was raised on a subsistence farm with animals and several gardens and later received a degree in crops and land resource management BA from CSU Chico. Clinton owned his first farm in 2008 and the two became partners on a new plot in 2012 where they farmed certified organic produce for three years. Two years of consulting/certified organic farm management in Oregon as master grower and farm manager positions.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Within the next 5 years our goal is to learn more about producing our crop most efficiently and environmentally sustainable so we can build a solid foundation for the years to follow. We will try different system designs to deal with weeds, improve soil biology and increase organic matter as solution to lowering costly farm inputs. Our focus will be on hemp flower production. An optimized farming system on a smaller acreage will prepare us and help pave the way for long term farming goals on our very own land.

What are your long term goals

Within 5 years we will have learned what farm system is most suited for our economic stability and environmental values. Within 10 years, we want to expand operations on our own land and continue to farm. We are farmers for life.

Describe your housing needs

Housing for the two of us and/or RV space is beneficial but not mandatory.
