Seeking land for cow sanctuary, market garden and farmstand, sustainable living educational workshops

Land Seeker Description

Hello fellow land owners and farmers,

I currently have a large acreage property outside of Silverton and am an experienced market gardener, goat herder, and land steward. We have 17 cows and are looking for EFU farm land to lease and/or buy to be able to have a cow sanctuary, market garden, farmstand and educational workshops for the public. My farm is zoned ag land only, so no public options. I have been organic farming, water collecting, beekeeping, natural horsemanship, goat milking, soil building, composting and trying to live in harmony with the land and forest for over 20 years and also have experience with sustainable building practices, rotational grazing, fiber flocks and flower farming. I would like to create a sister farm where I can share these practices with the public.

What features of the property are essential?

Well water or irrigation and/or a big barn for water catchment system. Fencing, pasture, some flat ground, EFU zoning

Describe your farming experience

I have worked on farms from Montana to Hawaii and have been market gardening and homesteading on my own farm here in Silverton Oregon for 7 years. We start most all of crops from seed in the greenhouse and I also store, can, freeze and preserve most of our food. I also had a small market garden in Montana for 4 years before moving to Oregon. I started working on organic farms in College in Mission Valley of Montana 25 years ago and help to start two tropical fruit and permaculture farms on the Big Island of Hawaii. I've worked with goats, sheep, horses, alpacas and currently have a herd of milk goats, rescue cows and several horses that I have restored through natural horsemanship practices.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Educational workshops for the public including beekeeping, natural horsemanship events, milk goats and cheesemaking, canning and preserving, small-scale farming practices, growing and using culinary and medicinal herbs, flower arranging and wreath making etc.

What are your long term goals

To continue with the short term goals and add educational programs for school aged children, apprenticeship programs and urban outreach programs.

Describe your housing needs

Housing is optional. I have a house but would like to have house for farm workers/managers. This could be an off-grid housing situation / tiny home option etc.
