Seeking Farmland for Lease

?

Land Seeker Description

Hello, my name is Derek, and I’m an aspiring poultry farmer looking for 5-10 acres of land in Oregon to start a small-scale, pasture-raised chicken operation. I currently own chickens and enjoy growing my own food, and I’m passionate about sustainable farming and homesteading. My goal is to produce high-quality eggs and/or meat using ethical, regenerative practices that improve soil health and support local food systems.

I’m looking for land with access to water and space for mobile chicken coops. Ideally, I’d like to lease land or collaborate with a landowner who shares an interest in sustainable agriculture. In return, I can offer benefits such as soil-enriching manure, rotational grazing, and potential revenue-sharing opportunities.

Professionally, I have over seven years of experience as a treasury manager for a multinational bank, and I’m eager to apply my business and financial expertise to build a thriving farm operation. If you have available land or know of an opportunity that aligns with my goals, I’d love to connect!

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Derek W.

What features of the property are essential?

The key features I’m looking for on the farm include:

• Ability to bring mobile chicken coops on-site: I plan to use movable coops for rotational grazing, which will help maintain healthy pastures.
• Barn or structure for raising chicks: A temporary barn or shelter would be essential for the early stages of raising chicks before transitioning them to mobile coops.
• Access to a reliable water supply: Access to clean water is crucial for both the poultry and any other farming activities.
• Ability to drive my truck or tractor onto the premises: This will allow me to move or rotate mobile coops efficiently and maintain a smooth workflow on the farm.

Describe your farming experience

I have hands-on experience with small-scale farming and homesteading. Growing up, I helped on my grandfather’s homestead, where I learned the fundamentals of caring for livestock, growing food, and maintaining a self-sufficient lifestyle. Currently, I own chickens for egg production and maintain a garden, further deepening my knowledge of sustainable food production. My passion for farming has only grown over the years, and I’m eager to expand into a larger-scale operation focused on pasture-raised poultry.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

My immediate goal is to develop a network of people—friends, family, and the local community—who are purchasing higher-quality, pasture-raised poultry from me instead of the supermarket. I want to build strong relationships with local customers who value the benefits of ethically raised, nutritious poultry. In the future, I plan to turn this into a business, continuing to focus on supplying the local market with fresh, sustainable products.

What are your long term goals

My long-term goal is to own my own farm, where I can expand my poultry operation and other sustainable farming practices. I want to create a self-sustaining farm that not only produces high-quality poultry but also contributes to the local community and food system. Ultimately, I envision a thriving farm that supports my values of sustainability, ethical farming, and local food security.

Describe your housing needs

I’m looking for land with access to water and space for mobile chicken coops. Initially, I may require a barn-type structure to temporarily raise chicks. Afterward, I plan to bring mobile chicken coops on-site, which will allow for rotational grazing and improve the quality of the land.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I am committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals, regardless of background. I believe that a diverse, inclusive community enriches the farming experience, and I want to ensure that people from all walks of life feel valued and respected on the land. Whether it’s through collaboration, education, or just sharing in the joys of farming, my goal is to foster a positive atmosphere where everyone—no matter their background—feels welcomed, heard, and supported.
