Hi there! My name is Iva True Phillips. Recently moving to the Portland area from Asheville, NC has caught me off guard! I’m used to having the soil between my toes, sunshine on my face and my hands go, go, going! I am not used to the city life and am seeking a collaborative experience to steward land for a small agriculture project, to connect my soul. to connect to the people, and connect to the land here.
Looking to find a way to begin my own sustainable project/farm. I am open to all possibilities and would love to come up with a plan to work the land with you or with a mutual beneficial agreement that lets me cultivate the land.
Water rights, organically/sustainably/responsibly farmed land
Before moving to the Portland area with my partner, Adam, who is studying at NUNM (hence the city)... I studied Sustainable Agriculture in University for two years. I worked through the seasons on multiple organic, one biodynamic, agriculture fruit, nut and produce productions in North Carolina, as well as Hawaii. Most recently diving into a sustainable community in Ecuador focusing on a food forest, and natural building project. Since moving to Portland I have completed a birth and postpartum doula training, which has been a focus of mine to begin offerings in PDX. But finding myself DISCONNECTED, I need to return to these natural cycles of birth and death I learn and live in a sustainable agriculture environment. I am always a student and absorb all the information I can get my hands on. I aim to explore the PNW soil, ethnobotany, and food systems small or large. I am passionate about healing with foods and constantly find my creativity being expressed in the way I cook. Growing of herbs would be my first priority.
Short-term plans would be to lease land to sustainably steward herbs, medicinals, native plants to be used in a value-added product. This would be taken to market for sale. Other streams would include being an add on product to my doula business, website sales, and donations.
My long-term goal is to acquire property for a holistic, healing, sustainable community with a focus on being self-sufficient.
If within Portland area no housing needed. However, if there is an option for housing outside of Portland I would be open to the idea.
Keep completely open, safe lines of communication at all times. As well, instill safety standards, practicing active listening, and constant unlearning!
