Seeking collaboration for a small tea and herb farm

Land Seeker Description

I am a young farmer interested in starting (or helping to start) a small-scale, organic tea (Camellia sinensis) farm. I am also interested in growing a variety of herbs, medicinal plants, and possibly mushrooms. I would love to farm organically and use regenerative methods as much as possible. At this stage, I am very flexible in terms of the land use arrangement. I would love to collaborate with others in some capacity, and if we share similar interests I would love to join your project and help bring your farm ideas to life! I am excited to hear about your plans and how we can work together!

What features of the property are essential?

Flexible on this, but generally any land that is already set up for a farm will be suitable. Water for irrigation and open land is essential. Ideally, there would be electricity and available greenhouse space as well.

Describe your farming experience

I have a couple of years of home gardening under my belt in addition to three years of farm experience from my work on an OSU research farm. My main expertise is in berry production, mainly strawberries. I have experience with farm design, irrigation, fertility, pest and disease control, various tools, machinery, and small tractors.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Short-term plans may vary a lot depending on the arrangement but I would like to have established tea plants and herbs. Marketing and selling through on-farm visitors and possibly local farmer's markets and small shops.

What are your long term goals

The long-term goal is to create a successful and unique tea farm/business with local appeal and the potential to expand or develop in other directions. I want to help create a welcoming community of people who value the planet, healthy food, and local farming.

Describe your housing needs

Housing is not required but would be welcomed if it was the right fit. I currently live with my partner and the sweetest, most well-behaved small dog, so any housing would have to accommodate them as well.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

Creating a safe and welcoming environment is a priority for me! All will be welcome and valued.
