I am a young farmer seeking land in Washington County (or nearby). My farming/agriculture experience includes vegetable production, herbs, dairy goats, cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, and chickens. For the past four years I have managed a thirty-acre educational farm in northwest Portland where I raise sheep and cattle. I am seeking acreage where I could raise a small flock of sheep. My ideal farmland would already have some kind of barn structure and fencing, but what’s more important to me is finding a landowner who feels that my farming goals are a good fit for their land.
livestock shelter, fencing, and access to water
I have worked on a variety of farms including horse ranches, a dairy goat operation, vegetable farms, and currently an educational farm raising cattle and sheep. I have 4+ years of farm management experience and know how to operate farm equipment including tractors, tillers, and mowers. I have a bachelor's degree in Animal Science and a master's in Agriculture.
Short term plans would include getting to know the landowner and their goals for the land in order to come up with a plan that works for everyone involved. Putting in any needed infrastructure, building soil health, and introducing sheep would come next. I would also be interested in growing herbs and flowers to sell, and to add an aesthetic component to the land.
My long term farming plans include raising a healthy herd of sheep, selling wool, lambs, and value-added products, and improving the health of the land through grazing. I'm very open to other farming endeavors if they match with the landowner's goals for the land.
None at this time
I value equity, diversity, and inclusion and would make that known on the farm and within all farm communications and marketing. I would offer reduced class fees and/or scholarships for BIPOC students.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
