We are a small family of 3, My husband is 31 and a Mechanic, born and raised one. I’m 27, in college undecided, working in a Dialysis clinic. We have a 3 year old and a year old husky. We moved to Portland 2 times from Colorado, this time is permanent. We are looking to change our way of life, start a farm and become more self-sustaining. We want to raise our children in that life. Feel connected to the place we live and have work that feels satisfying.
We are looking for somewhere to get on our feet with farming, see what methods would work for us in the long term. How farming is practiced in Oregon.
Ideally we would like to find somewhere to rent with a rent to own option or partnership. A livable dwelling that we could fix up if need be, space to garden and have chickens, goats, or sheep. Someone willing to mentor us in the beginning would be invaluable.
Livable structure, barn, electricity, well, or water rights. Still researching.
NO farming experience. Some backyard gardening but not recently.
Get our hands dirty and gain experience in what we like and what is practical for us and the are we are in. We want to start first with vegetable gardening and finding a method we like, chickens, and goats or sheep. Bees, make some money to get our own space.
We want to have a farm of our own where we can grow vegetables and raise animals for our own consumption and to sell to others, enough to support our farm and family.
Something livable for 2 adults, a child, and 1 dog.
