Married couple looking for land to start a farm based in regenerative agriculture and permaculture. We dream of living and working in community on a non-profit farm that feeds those in need in our community-at-large and offers a place of retreat.
water, sewer, power for the on-farm housing
I grew up on a u-pick vegetable farm with a flower nursery, a farm store, and farmers markets booths. We also raised turkeys, beef cattle, and laying hens, grew corn, beans and strawberries for the cannery and contracted specialty seed crops as well as maintaining orchards of hazelnuts, walnuts, apples, and pears. During college, I worked the farm during the summer breaks. After college, I returned to the farm to assist with the retail sales aspect eventually managing the u-pick operation, farm store, and farmers markets.
My passion is growing food and sharing it with my community. When I have land of my own, I will install a food forest near the home as a demonstration of a food forest and what can be accomplished without irrigation and using regenerative agricultural techniques. The food forest will include fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, flowers, herbs, and mushrooms. Laying chickens and ducks will be moved throughout the food forest to help control bugs, weeds and add fertilization.
Eventually, I would like to build a couple of cabins using eco-friendly and sustainable methods such as straw bale insulation, passive geothermal heating and cooling and earthship technologies. The goal is to farm in community with others living on the same land.
My wife and I currently rent an apartment. We would like to live on the land where we are farming. We would like at least a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home.
As a farmer, it is my job to grow food for my community. As an openly queer farmer, it is my presence and standing in my own truth that create the space and supportive environment for others be themselves whoever that may be and in whatever form that may take.
