I grew up on my family farm and learned agriculture practices and animal handling and positive animal husbandry practices at a young age. Agriculture became a passion as it was a great way to connect to the land and I learned that I could provide a sustainable and healthy food source for my family. I started raising cattle and operating our small farm here in Prineville, Oregon, so my family, neighbors, and community could benefit from a local food source that is healthier and free of preservatives, additives, and growth hormones.
In 2016, I started Big Summit Beef Co. Starting the business was primarily due to the positive feedback and interest in our locally raised and sourced farm raised meat products from family members, friends, and customers. I am currently farming 15-20 acres. I breed and raise Angus cattle. In addition to the cattle, I grow and harvest hay which is fed to our cattle in the winter months. Our cattle are ethically and humanely raised and finished 100% free ranged on pastures with the highest quality native grasses and forages. Our cattle reach maturity and are harvested at approximately 18-20 months. I believe in and utilize regenerative agricultural practices (i.e. rotational grazing and other land management techniques) that are good for the environment and the result in healthier meat products. I also market, sell, and distribute other local farmers meat products.
The business has grown and the demand for our meat products has increased. This is why I am seeking a partnership and land so I can raise more cattle and continue providing high quality meat products on a consistent basis! I would be willing to partner with a producer to market and sell products in exchange for a land lease. I am also seeking land since it is likely the drought could continue and the lack of irrigation water on my land in my irrigation district would extremely limit my ability to raise my meat products.
