My partner and 2 adult children (18 and 21) have been looking for a little bit of land and a house to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers to sell. Ideally, we want to raise a couple goats, maybe <5 small sheep, and chickens. My partner and I have many years of experience with sustainable, organic farming, and we have open minds to new ideas and concepts for tending the land with care and love. We have outside income; both kids are employed, I am employed, and my partner gets disability benefits monthly. We are all hard-working, peaceful, respectful people with a love for farming, family and taking care of the land.
We don't need much. A barn for the animals, maybe a shop, electricity, small pasture, and access to water for livestock and crops.
My partner was in FFA in high school and worked a small farm for many years on her father's land. I tended my mother's large vegetable and herb garden my whole life until I left home. Since then I assisted with a friend's sustainable organic garden for 10+ years.
We want to start with chickens and goats to clear and prepare the soil for the crops, building up raised beds and nurture the soil if need be. Raise vegetables, herbs and flowers.
We would love to work up to a small flock of sheep to do work with the wool ( spinning, dyeing, weaving) and meat, raise goats for dairy and keeping shrubs under control, a small orchard with apples and pears, someday even a small vineyard. We would love to have an apiary somewhere on the land.
We would benefit best from a 3 bedroom home, but can comfortably live with 2. Shop space would be ideal.
