Purchase or lease 200+ acres in Willamette Valley

?

Land Seeker Description

Native Oregonian looking to get back into farming.  I grew up working on an Oregon Coast Dairy Farm until I was 22.  The family farm was sold and I used my Agricultural Business degree from Oregon State University to get a job as a commodity merchandiser for Columbia Grain, then ran a agricultural trucking business..  I subsequently went to Texas A&M to earn my Masters in Business Administration where I accepted a job with an Oil & Gas Company as a finance manager where I have worked for the last 13 years.  The corporate culture has taken its toll and I feel that I am being called back to Oregon and move  my young family of 5 back to the farm and closer to family and friends .

I am looking to use my work ethic, savings, faith, and business acumen to get a start in the greater Willamette Valley; I have access to farming equipment for Corn, Grass Seed, beans, and Wheat. However, I am open to all types of opportunities including  hazelnuts, hops, mint, Christmas Trees etc.

If you are farmer or land owner looking to retire / downsize / lease or sell I would appreciate the opportunity to meet face to face and  discuss if we can come to a mutually beneficial agreement.   Ideal starting size would be  200 – 500 acres; I have access to equipment for all of the aforementioned crops.  Willing to discuss a smaller operation (i.e. orchard crops) where it is possible to earn a living wage.

My dad always said “God feeds the birds but they have to fly for it” – willing to put in the work and take the risk –  just need the opportunity.

What features of the property are essential?

Essential features will depend on the opportunity. Ideal situation would have existing home, shop, and water rights. This would really depend on the type of opportunity available.

Describe your farming experience

Also ran the family trucking business transporting Hay from central Oregon and cannery waste from Willamette Valley Canneries. I also earned an Agricultural Business Management / Animal Science Degree from Oregon State University.

Longer term I would like to grow my business to 1000+ acres of grass seed/ row crops / other to support my family and reach economies of scale needed to generate a reasonable profit.
