We are a young couple looking for a family farm where we would like to homestead and operate a small market-garden and orchard. We’re looking for a space that can accommodate ourselves as well as addition family members, including a mother and sister. Ideally, we would want enough space to co-house on a property to reduce expenses by pooling resources, grow food for ourselves as well as for market, and live a sustainable lifestyle through subsistence.
Property should have…
– at least 5 acres
– a modest residence (a fixer-upper would be great)
– land would ideally be mixture of meadow and trees
– Creek would be a plus
Other options we’re open to would include a partnership where we exchange our love and labor for a place to reside. Ultimately we want a place where we can invest our future and live an outdoors lifestyle that allows us to spend time in the garden, building things with cob, and practicing crafts; whether we own the land or not is perhaps not necessary. We are open to possibilities!
Soil... ideally a clay loam that is versatile for cultivation and natural building
Small residence (fixer-upper would be great)
Some WWOOFing, as well as back-yard gardening. We have raised chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Also, have a little experience working with horses.
Plant an orchard, start a mushroom nursery, develop a vegetable garden, and poultry housing.
A diverse family farm that grows enough produce to cover 60% of personal needs, and some surplus for market.
Personal needs cultivation would include... fruit, vegetables, nuts, pouitry, herbs, mushrooms, some grains.
Market crops might include... fruit, vegetables, mushrooms.
A small house with 3 bedrooms, 1 bath would be great.
