Organic veggie and flower farm seeks 1-2 acres in Clackamas or Multnomah county

Land Seeker Description

Currently the farm operates on an acre, growing certified organic veggies and flowers. The farm began in 2015 at the Headwaters Incubator Program run by East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District. The farm sells at a Portland farmer’s market. Practices used are low-till, ecologically minded, supportive of pollinator habitat, provide erosion control through cover cropping, and work to create a symbiotic relationship with soil biology through compost teas and other innoculated fertilizers. This year has plans to try more biodynamic preparations as well.

Current land lease situation ends in Dec 2021, so I’m looking for at least one acre  or possibly two that would be eligible for organic certification. The farm is woman-farmer owned and operated.

What features of the property are essential?

Need irrigation, good soils, fencing protection from wildlife or other farm animals, cooperative environment with values around respectful, open and consistent communication. I strive to communicate authentically, respectfully and self-responsibly.

Describe your farming experience

The farm began in 2015 at Headwaters Incubator, which was very supportive for training and building the business. Prior to starting a farm, I ran a small market garden east of Portland as well as working on the crew for several large organic farms in the Portland area for 4 years. The farm has its own BCS tractor, implements and all infrastructure needed. The farm is in a time of expansion and building wonderful customer relationships.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

In the next few years, the farm will expand a bit to include one employee and possibly adding a CSA in addition to the farmers market. More emphasis on flowers will gradually work into the operation.

What are your long term goals

Long term goal is to have a stable home and stable land access. The farm will run solidly with two or three people's labor. Not looking for business partnership with current landowner.

Describe your housing needs

Would like to have a house to live in with one or two bedrooms. Possible tiny house hookup. If land is near a town, we can rent nearby.
