Land Seeker Description

What features of the property are essential?

Structures of any kind are always helpful. Water rights would be wonderful as well. I have a preference to work organic land, though it doesn't need certification.

Describe your farming experience

I have been an avid gardener most of my adult life. I started farming as a career in 2016 in Maryland. I managed a produce farm in 2017 that was part of a DC restaurant group. In 2018-19 I worked as a farm hand at an organic produce farm that had farmer's market stands in multiple DC locations. Since moving to Oregon I began working at a wholesale nursery as a greenhouse grower's assistant that provides organic vegetable starts, conventional flower starts and houseplants to various PNW nurseries.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

My plan is to do market research for the area available and provide a needed product. I have experience providing wholesale produce for restaurant use, managing a busy farmer's market stand, CSAs, general farm management, organic practices and I grew up on a horse farm. I would love to utilize as many of my gathered skills as possible yet still have time to take classes for farming online. Furthering my education has always been a beloved past-time of mine as I often read through old textbooks and new farming materials. So generally, I would love to do any kind of farming that provides for the community and I am skilled and willing to do almost any organic farming to accomplish that. Utilizing a customer base that a farm's previous manager wants me to continue to provide for is also within my wheelhouse.

What are your long term goals

Owning property within the earlier term of long-term time frames. I hope to be a learned, seasoned organic farmer with biodynamic tendencies and am committed to providing nourishment and enrichment for the community. It would be fantastic to have farm animals that can be used to enrich the land and I have always loved the idea of having yak, goats, rabbits and the like for manure, fiber, and meat. I have a love of educating the public about anything to do with nature and I hope to always be able to interact with the community in such a way, hosting workshops or educational retreats has always been a dream.

Describe your housing needs

A home for rent available with the land would be ideal. My boyfriend and I are looking to move out of our rental home in Beaverton in the next couple of months. We have well behaved pets that are part of our family unit, 3 dogs and a cat. A fenced yard would be wonderful or the ability for us to erect a simple fence for the dogs.
