My husband, Shawn, and I are looking to provide some weekly assistance on a farm outside of Portland.
We're looking for folks using progressive and thoughtful farming practices, as well as being friendly, kind, gentle, and caring people.
Shawn and I grew up gardening in Kentucky. I had two summers worth of paid farming on the University of Kentucky horticulture farm in college, Shawn has raised goats. We have both started/tended many large vegetable gardens over the years and raised backyard chickens. We were also members of the Four Door Farm coop in SW Portland for a few years.
Short term goals: We are looking for a place outside the city that we can be of use and get some fulfillment and rejuvenation through digging in the soil, helping things grow, working with other farmers, enjoying the quiet country sounds, and breathing fresh air. We also want to get a feel for where we might want to set up our permanent farm and homestead, and build some relationships with farmers in the area.
Long term goals: We intend to purchase our own land within a few years, or sooner if possible. If the situation/fit is right on the farm that we help with, we may be interested in a partnership or taking over the land if the farmer is interested.
Right now we will just be commuting from the city for the day on a Saturday or Sunday, so we don't need housing. For our long term goals, we are looking to live on a farm in a farmhouse and build community.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
